About Luminova Kids

Why we exist

Since 2022, learning has been disrupted for many Ukrainian children: schools moved online, families relocated, and private tutoring became unaffordable for many. English — a subject that rewards steady, individual practice — was often among the first things to fall away. Luminova Kids was created to close part of that gap.

1. Volunteer tutoring

Parents fill in a short form. We match their child with a volunteer tutor by grade and available time. Lessons take place online and cost the family nothing.

Our tutors are mostly secondary-school students, university students and teachers who want to give some of their time. For many it is their first serious volunteering experience. Volunteers aged 14–17 join only with their parents’ consent.

2. An open library of materials

Every lesson, text, audio track and worksheet on this site is open to anyone: parents, teachers and children themselves. No account is needed, and you can use them without our tutoring.

How it works

The materials are split into four grades. Each grade has four sections:

• Reading — short texts on everyday topics with comprehension questions.
• Listening — audio tasks to get used to spoken English.
• Interactive exercises — word games right in the browser.
• Worksheets — sheets you can do online or print.

Topics come from real life: at the shop, a rainy day, a walk in the forest, bedtime. Children learn language for specific situations rather than isolated words. There are currently 134 lessons grouped into 41 topics.

The lessons are written for Ukrainian-speaking children, so word translations and the sentences children translate stay in Ukrainian on the English version of the site.

Our principles

• Free. Neither lessons nor materials cost families anything, and we don’t plan to change that.
• Open access. No passwords and no paid tiers.
• A light website. No ads and no heavy scripts.
• Minimal data. Learning on the site needs no sign-up and no child’s name. We use form data only to match tutors — details.
• Mistakes are fine. Exercises are designed so that mistakes are part of learning.

About the materials

Texts, exercises, audio and worksheets are created by the project’s volunteers. Some texts were drafted with the help of AI tools and then checked and edited. The worksheets were made in Canva.

You may use the materials free of charge for learning — at home, in class or in clubs — and print them for your students. You may not sell them or present them as your own. The exact rules are in our Terms of use.

Who is behind it
